Ivan was born May 27 th 1973 along with his twin brother Stefan . He joined the rest of his family, Zdenek, Ruth, Theresa and Sheba (and later Ebony ) and settled in Tsawwassen, BC . He became active early on and excelled at sports and creativity. He graduated with honours from South Delta Senior Secondary in 1991 and when he left high school he began installing kitchens and also continued to play soccer , however, after four years of that life he set off traveling. His travels took him to places like Mexico, France, America, Switzerland and Zimbabwe but to this day he still thinks of Sydney, Australia as his second home where he discovered acting at the Dean Carey Actor's Centre. For nine months he studied the basics of acting until another persons' life came into question. His father had cancer . Ivan returned to Canada in 1998 and while he took his father to treatments he enrolled into a two-year full time acting program at Gastown Actor's Studio under the head of Mel Tuck . To this day he studies off and on with him and other peers like Ben Ratner and Michelle Lonsdale-Smith at The Lyric School of Acting . Ivan's first play was a lighthearted play called Arrivals and Departures . His second play, called Scary Stories , by Gordon Armstrong , was about a Jewish homosexual who created comic books as an arena to voice his inner pains. Ivan's father died during rehearsals giving Ivan his first true glimpse of how well art imitates life. He continued on with a handful of other plays. Rumors by Neil Simon ; The Cherry Orchard , by Anton Chekhov ; Escape From Happiness , by George F. Walker; Love and Reason with Will and Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare in which one reviewer glowed, "Ivan Cermak brings a seductive bad-boy sleaziness and depth to the schemer, Borachio." Considering the rest of the play didn't get a favorable review this was quite the compliment. Other plays included Progress ; In 2004 an original piece called The Lie Factory , by Patrick Cotter and Barbara Whiting and his two personal favorites, one in 2003 called The Woolgatherer , by William Mastrosimone and the other in 2002 called The Curate Shakespeare As You Like It , by Don Nigro, in which he played a challenged person trying to perform Shakespeare. Ivan's first few years of film consisted of a variety of independent films including The Black Cross; Symphony of Grace; The Black Prayer; Screenwriting and Masochism and a Kick-start short film called Good Morning. In 2002 Ivan landed a couple of commercials; Acura and EA Sports and he acted in a couple Vancouver shot TV series'; Animal Miracles and Stargate SG-1; playing a Captain in both! He then wrote, produced and starred in his own short film The Winner and found some local fame in Vancouver by being interviewed for the film on the local hit show Urban Rush . In 2003 Ivan continued with a few more independent short films called, Tethys; Live From the Last Wall; Hot Sauce and Searching for Boris and he did a commercial for Coffee Mate. He also finished writing his first feature film, Mr. Romantic. 2004 kept him busy too with another Acura commercial and some more work on TV series'; The L Word; The Mountain; Smallville; the Stephen King mini series Kingdom Hospital and Tru Calling in which he followed up with an interview in Britain's Cult Times . He also wrote, produced, directed and starred in his second short film called Butterflies . Now we come to 2005 and you'll just have to keep updated with my news...
